When you add comments to a Google doc, the document can be exported into MS Word, and appears to be landscape, so that the font size is about the same and the extra width is used to house the comments.
BUT
When you actually print it, it prints portrait and shrinks the font size accordingly. To make it really landscape, you need to do more than just choose landscape in Page Layout Orientation (which is already selected), but rather go into the Page Setup dialog box and choose it...
